Photography Styles and Creativity

Many photographers have a particular style that they’re known for. Whether it’s cinematic, light and airy, true color, or mysterious and moody, every photographer has their preferences and it usually creates a very pleasingly aesthetic Instagram page.
However, this is one area that I’ve personally struggled with. For a lot of my photo shoots, I love a clean, bright, true-color feel.

However, I also love the complete polar opposite, because deep down I’m still just a little goth girl.

At times I feel like my Instagram page is a little all over the place, but I like to think that it shows I’m capable of a broad range. One thing that I hope to showcase more, though, is that I'm always willing to work with the client's personal taste. While perhaps my own style is more true-color, I’m not at all opposed to the golden hues that are still so very popular right now.
I recently did a photo shoot with my hair stylist and her family, and she showed me a few ideas she found as inspiration. (Just for the record, this is SO incredibly helpful for someone like me, because I am very much a visual learner. I always ask my clients if they have a vision in mind, because it not only helps me pick a good location for them, but also gives me what I need to know for editing.)
In this case, she wanted more golden, autumn vibes to go with the outfits she had chosen, so I made sure to edit the photos according to what she preferred.

Same thing with a maternity shoot that took place the very next day. My mama-to-be wanted beautiful autumn colors, trees, and water. I found the Aspen Day Use area off the Deschutes River near Bend, and the shoot ended up so very pretty. Once again, she sent me visuals that she was really drawn to, and I found presets and edits that fit with the vibe she wanted.

For me, even though I’ll always have my own personal taste, my ultimate goal is to deliver a product that will make the client happy. I absolutely love getting to utilize my creativity to provide exactly what my client is looking for, no matter what that request may be. (Well, within reason, of course, lol.)
Choosing a photographer because you like their style is absolutely fine, but never be afraid to ask for something in particular or show them what you have in mind! I can’t speak for everyone, naturally, but I most certainly want to know what you prefer. And being able to think outside the box is part of what drew me to photography in the first place. So send me your inspiration, and we'll make it become reality.
Happy travels!
